Why we love shooting at
Waimea Valley.

Waimea Valley is one of the most magical and historically significant places on Oahu — a lush, breathtaking botanical garden and cultural preserve on the North Shore featuring over 5,000 tropical plant species, ancient Hawaiian archaeological sites, and the stunning Waimea Falls cascading into a natural swimming pool.

For couples who want a wedding surrounded by extraordinary natural beauty with deep Hawaiian cultural roots, Waimea Valley is unlike anywhere else on the island. We've photographed weddings and sessions at Waimea Valley and the lush, verdant environment creates imagery of exceptional richness and beauty.

Waimea Valley's Natural Beauty

Waimea Valley's botanical garden encompasses over 1,800 acres of lush valley — one of the most biodiverse and beautiful natural environments in all of Hawaii. Ancient Hawaiian terraces, tropical plantings, native birds, and the ever-present sound of flowing water create a sensory experience that is completely immersive.

The valley's lush green canopy creates beautiful, soft, diffused light throughout the day — perfect for portrait photography. Unlike open beach settings where direct sun can be harsh, Waimea's natural canopy softens and flatters the light in almost all conditions.

Waimea Falls as a Wedding Backdrop

The 45-foot Waimea Falls is one of the most iconic natural landmarks on Oahu — and having it as a backdrop for your wedding portraits is extraordinary. The falls, the natural pool, and the surrounding tropical vegetation create portrait settings of remarkable beauty and uniqueness.

Getting to the falls requires a pleasant walk through the valley — about 1.5 miles each way on a well-maintained path. We factor this into your wedding day timeline and it's absolutely worth it for the images we create there.

Hawaiian Cultural Heritage

Waimea Valley is a place of deep cultural significance — home to ancient Hawaiian heiau (temples), agricultural terraces, and a living museum of Hawaiian culture. For couples who want their wedding to feel connected to the genuine history and spirit of Hawaii, Waimea Valley provides that connection in a profound way.
